Frequently asked questions
Voice therapy may also be referred to as speech therapy or voice training. It offers a wide range of advice and techniques used in the management of voice disorders. Significant improvement in the quality of voice for professional, social and work purposes can be achieved along with voice ease and efficiency. Increased awareness of how to use your voice and factors which can have an impact on voice can prevent long term problems. It is offered by speech and language therapists who specialise in voice therapy or voice coaches. Here at ReVoice, we have over 30 years of experience in this area.
Voice therapy combines both vocal and physical exercises. It offers advice around causal factors which affect the voice and recommends behavioural changes, to achieve best practice in the treatment of voice disorders. At ReVoice we will work with you to attain relief from your vocal problems. We centre around achieving your best possible voice. Find out more today and contact Karen for confidential advice and assessment for voice therapy Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire and Cheshire.
There can be mis-understanding about referral to speech therapy and voice therapy. Many people might ask why they may need voice therapy. The reason is similar to an athlete who is referred to a physiotherapist following a strain or an injury. A person's voice can also be harmed or injured, or become weak and strained. Voice therapy aims to ‘fix’ voice problems as quickly as possible, so that further damage does not occur. When voice improvement is achieved, the use of the techniques along with recommendations can help prevent future problems. Voice therapy therefore firstly stops the harm from causing increased damage, then restores and improves the quality of voice. We work to prevent future voice difficulties which is essentially through a 3-tier approach.
Each person we treat will have different symptoms and therefore different voice therapy needs. We will set personal goals to suit each individual need. Each need will be determined through assessment and discussion in order to tailor a bespoke voice therapy programme. The focus may range from getting rid of that 'feeling of something stuck in your throat’, and achieving relief from an achy throat and neck discomfort to being able to use your voice more effectively in order to use a louder, stronger voice. Another goal could be to work to prevent your voice from feeling weak when giving a presentation or speaking within a group situation. It may simply be that your goal is to get your voice back to the way it used to sound. We believe that all of the above can be achieved from accurate assessment and treatment from an experienced professional. At ReVoice, we will discuss with you the potential outcome of your voice therapy programme. During the therapy sessions, both the voice therapist and the client have an equal responsibility to help make therapy a success. The effectiveness of voice therapy will also rely upon your own active participation both within and outside of each session. To achieve good outcome, it is vital that clients adhere to advice and technical exercises given within each voice therapy session and generalise them into everyday life situations. Further to this, the effectiveness of voice therapy may be affected by any underlying medical issues associated with your voice disorder. ReVoice may be able to treat some of these issues and others we may not, however, we will always talk through solutions and options for the best possible outcome, in order to help you obtain your best possible voice.
At ReVoice we offer a variety of voice intervention services to suit all individual needs. We treat identified voice problems, enhance voice quality to maximum potential and offer techniques to help prevent future voicing problems. As well as specialising in skills-based voice therapy to make the most of your voice, we offer advice and training workshops to enhance presentation and oral communication skills.
